Windows Store update: What is new?

The launch of Windows 8.1 meant some positive updates for Microsoft’s Operating System. One of them is the addition of a shortcut to Windows Store on the taskbar and the option to have quick access to the apps you have downloaded. Even though Windows Store is growing and more good apps are becoming available, it is not a secret that they still have a lot of work to do in order to reach the level of Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Still, it is evident that Microsoft is taking note of the things that need to be fixed and they have implemented some changes in the Windows Store to improve their users’ experience.

The Windows Store has been revamped and thanks to the recent update, it is easier to find what you are looking for. One of the major pain points was the needless scrolling and the constant backing up to previous menus that was required. These issues have been addressed effectively in the new Windows Store and a significant improvement can be noted. Users will find a navigation bar at the top of the screen, which enables easy access to the main options such as Categories, Collections and Top Charts to find apps faster.

Even those who are new to Windows 8, will be able to find and download all the must-have apps, thanks to Collections, a section that appears in the initial page of Windows Store and that lists the essential and most popular apps organized in different categories. Users can find the best Music apps, the latest deals and the best apps to start their Windows mobile experience.

With the update, Microsoft does not only hope to improve the navigation experience for their users. It also expects to top the competition, by offering users the chance to download the same app for all their devices ( in the suitable version for their tablet/ desktop and phone) paying only once for it. This means that you can have the app in your Windows Phone and Windows 8 PC without having to pay for the two versions. There will be an icon specially designed to let customers know which developers offer these “2 for the price of 1” deals.

The new Windows Store is considerably better and even thought there are no major updates or innovation, Microsoft is on the right track to keep and possibly attract users to their platform. After all, one of the main things that people are looking for are convenience and ease of use. The changes applied to make their interface more user friendly will allow Windows Store to stay strong in the race to reach the top of the industry.
