Missing Calendar Events After Upgrading – What to do?

Losing calendar events is something that usually happens after an upgrade but it can also happen due to factory settings reset or a system issue. If you have recently upgraded to iOS 8, Apple’s latest firmware and your old calendar appointments and events appear to be gone, you may be wondering what you can do to restore them. The good news is that there is a simple solution and you can get back the calendar events that have disappeared from your device.

If you are using iCloud calendar or your calendar is syncing with email services like Gmail or Yahoo, you can find it by simply going to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Tap on the email account and check that the button next to Calendars is enabled. Keep in mind that for past events, the default is to sync only 30 days back.

For the Calendar app, the settings can get reset when you upgrade and this could change how calendar events are synced to the Calendar app. This would prevent all events from syncing to the calendar app, but it can be solved by following the below steps:

1. Go to Settings
2. Scroll down and select on Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3. Go to the Calendar section and tap on Sync
4. Tap on All Events and exit Settings
5. Then open the Calendar app and tap on Calendars
6. To refresh the calendars, pull the list down. Keep in mind that it may take a while for all events to be displayed so you will need to wait until they are synced.

The iPhone changes to a different default selection in the Sync section due to speed and functionality. In most cases, users are more interested to see future events in the calendar and removing old events, ensures that the sync works faster. However, you will still be able to sync all events to the calendar if needed. It is important to keep in mind that it may take a long while for all events to sync to your calendar and there is no option to speed up the process. However, you can reduce the waiting time by exiting other apps that require data (such as WhatsApp and Facebook) to allow the calendar to sync all events.
